Chubby Chasers was shown on ITV Weds 24th November 2004 at 23:00. It was directed by Nickie Lister. The basis of the programme was to highlight the men who prefer the fuller figured woman.
The programme was shown in a sensitive way and the response that BPUK has had is positive. More people are now coming forward and expressing their feelings and knowing that there is positive support for them.
Many have been coming into the chat room and saying for the first time they can actually talk about their size without feeling they are going to be bullied or abused about it. Some felt that Chubby Chasers showed that fat people to have feelings and that they are also loved. This is not always reflected in the UK media and for once, through Chubby Chasers, this has been proven to be otherwise. It has also given people a way to find out more about UK size acceptance and enabled them to feel less isolated in a fat hating society.
Some feel that the programme was ‘fetish’. However, if it is taken in that light then one could question do all people have a ‘fetish’ if a ‘fetish’ is being equated to a preference? Some men do prefer thin women, others prefer larger women and some men have no preference. Does this make it a fetish? No, it makes it preference and a personal choice. However as chubby Chasers showed that some men who do like bigger women do not go out with them due to peer and social pressures. This is sad as some people out there and not able to fulfil their wishes in life and form loving relationships due to what others dictate.
We at BPUK would also like to wish both Tony and Anna good luck on their forthcoming marriage and wish them happiness in their lives together.
Slowly we are starting to get the message across that fat people in our society do exist and also have the right to loving and fulfilling lives and respect. Thank you Granada TV for producing a programme showing that people do like all shapes and sizes and that is it not wrong to do so.
